Kerry Lathan, a 56-year-old man who was shot in the back in the shooting that left rapper Nipsey Hussle dead on Sunday, March 31 outside of Marathon Clothing in Los Angeles, has been arrested, according to a report from TMZ. Lathan’s arrest comes because he was associating with Nipsey, who is a known gangster.
Lathan had recently been released from prison after serving a 20-year jail sentence.
He was out on parole and arrested at his halfway house after authorities learned he was associating with known gang members which was a violation of his parole. Nipsey was a member of the Rollin 60’s Crips.
It was previously reported that Nipsey was shot outside of his store when he made an impromptu trip without his security. That trip was to pick up new clothes for Lathan, so that he could have a fresh look when he was reunited with his friends and family.
Lathan, meanwhile, is currently bound to a wheelchair due to the injuries suffered in the shooting. He is being held in downtown Los Angeles and will remain behind bars while authorities attempt to deny his parole.
The news comes one day after Nipsey was honored with a memorial service at the Staples Center which was attended by approximately 21,000 people.
Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed on Sunday, March 31 outside of his clothing store — Marathon Clothing — in Los Angeles, California. The rapper was 33 years old. Hussle was recently nominated for Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards for his debut studio album “Victory Lap.” Initially, reports claimed that the murder in broad daylight was a result of gang violence, but it was later revealed that it stemmed from a personal issue between Nipsey and the shooter, Eric Holder, who is now in police custody and charged with murder.
