The first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX, officially titled The Rise of Skywalker is here.
In addition to the first trailer, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that the movie will officially be titled Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
While the trailer is gorgeous in every sense of the word, most fans are fixated on the chilling laugh that echoes throughout the end of the trailer: the laugh of General Palpatine.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which follows Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi, will star Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, Carrie Fisher as Leia Organa, and Keri Russell in an unspecified role.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, which will be the last film in the main Star Wars film franchise that began all the way back in 1977, is scheduled to be released in the United States on Friday, December 20, 2019.
Despite the fact that the most recent entry in the Star Wars universe — Solo: A Star Wars Story — was the least successful film in the 41-year-old franchise’s history, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker looks poised to break all sorts of records, as the conclusion of the decades-old storyline will surely draw audiences both old and young to the theater.
