The first official teaser for the ninth season of FX’s American Horror Story has dropped.
Each season, this anthology series tells a different story. For example, season one focused on a haunted house, season three followed a witch coven, and season six told the tale of supernatural events in Roanoke County.
Season nine’s teaser is a short one so far, but it does reveal that the title will be American Horror Story: 1984.
The teaser, titled The Woods, sees a young woman running away from a masked killer at what looks like to be a summer camp. It makes it clear that this season will pay homage to the famous slasher films of the 80s like Friday The 13th and Halloween. A cool tidbit of the teaser is that there are seven frames with letters and numbers appearing in the bottom right corner that spell out “1984 AHS.”
Not much else is known about this season. We do know that Emma Roberts will be returning for her fourth starring role in the series and fifth season overall. She’ll be joined by Olympic skater Gus Kentworth, who is making his acting debut as her boyfriend. Roberts’ real-life fiancé, Evan Peters, recently announced he wouldn’t appear this season after being part of all previous ones.
No official start date has been set, but FX and creator Ryan Murphy confirmed a fall 2019 premiere.
