Alexa Valiente, a 27-year-old television producer for ABC News, tragically passed away on Sunday, April 7, at the age of 27-years-old.

She was reportedly facing health problems for “several months”, according to ABC News. Her passing was announced by the network on Monday, April 8.

Valiente, who began working at ABC News as an intern before being promoted to a producer, won an Emmy Award in 2018 for the ABC News 20/20 piece “Las Vegas: Heartbreak and Heroes”, which was about the deadly Las Vegas mass shooting in October 2017.

In addition to her work on 20/20, Valiente also helped produce ABC programs such as Nightline and Popcorn with Peter Travers.

At this time, Valiente’s specific cause of death has not been disclosed.

James Goldston, the president of ABC News, described Valiente as “brilliant, friendly, upbeat and curious.”

“Always a friendly face in the halls, she had an upbeat spirit, a curious and brilliant mind, and a real passion to see the world. She will be deeply missed,” Goldston said in a statement.

Similarly, Peter Travers — the host of the ABC show Popcorn — released a statement on Valiente’s untimely passing, calling her death “cosmically wrong.”

“All of us at Popcorn and @ABC News are shattered by the death of our darling Alexa Valiente, who brought her talent, smarts and sense of fun to everything she touched. That she is gone at 27 is just cosmically wrong,” Travers’ Facebook statement read in part.

Valiente, a resident of New York City who studied diplomacy and international relations at New Jersey’s Seton Hall University, is survived by her parents, Mante and Connie, her sister, Jessica, and brother, Justin.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Valiente’s friends, family, and various loved ones during this extremely difficult time.
