Get used to the name Mallory Pugh, as you’re going to hear about her a lot before, during, and after the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France.

Pugh — born in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, on April 29, 1998 — is one of the most decorated high school soccer players in the history of the United States, having won both the U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year award and Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year award.

After tearing up high school soccer at Mountain Vista High School, Pugh had plans to continue her footballing career by playing for the Bruins at the University of California-Los Angeles, however, she was named to the USWNT squad that competed at 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, thus beginning her professional career.

In 2019, Pugh was heavily featured in the United States Women’s National Team’s friendly matches heading into the 2018 World Cup, so expect her to be a major part of the squad for the 3-time World Cup winners when push comes to shove in France.

Pugh will make her first World Cup appearance for the United States Women’s National Team, as she is expected to be a key offensive cog for the three-time winners.

The USWNT is going to need Pugh at her very best, as this year’s World Cup in France is loaded with talented teams that could easily unseat the United States of America, who lifted the trophy the last time the World Cup went down in 2015.
