Batavia Police are responding to a report of an “unknown man” with a rifle entering Batavia High School before students had arrived.
At this time, students and staff at the school are reportedly considered safe. Police have yet to provide a substantial update about this situation.
The school is currently on lockdown and the reports of an armed person remain unconfirmed. At this time, no injuries or fatalities have been reported.
Police have said there were no active shooter drills scheduled for today. The report of the armed person came in around 6:15 a.m. local time. A heavy police presence is currently on the scene.

“Please stay away from Batavia High School until further notice. Police are responding to a report of an unknown man with a rifle entering the school,” the City of Batavia said in a statement on Twitter at 6:41 a.m. local time.
Additionally, an email from the school district further explained the situation, saying that buses were being rerouted as a result of the lockdown.
Batavia High School, which serves grades 9 through 12, is a public high school located at 1201 Main Street in Batavia, Illinois, and has a current enrollment of approximately 1,900 students.
