Noah Lee, 22-years-old, has been identified as the New York City man who caused a “shelter in place” at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology after he posted an Instagram Story that showed him brandishing a gun with the caption “School shooter, thank God its Friday.”
According to the New York City Police Department, students and staff at the Fashion Institute of Technology were under a “shelter in place” from 6 p.m. EST to about 7 p.m. EST on Friday, April 5, as a result of Lee’s Instagram post.
Police eventually tracked down Lee at a nearby a Barnes & Noble bookstore in the Union Square area of New York City armed with a pellet gun and a gas mask.
“Excellent Teamwork tonight by @NYPDPSA4, @NYPDSpecialops @NYPDPBMS, @NYPDCT @NYPDDetectives, and all the Tenth Precinct first responders for investigating and apprehending an individual who made threats with this pellet gun,” tweeted Captain Kevin J. Coleman, the Commanding Officer of the New York City Police Department’s 10th Precinct.
Speaking to CBS 2 New York, Fashion Institute of Technology student Gianna Kingsland identified Lee as a classmate of her’s.
“He was in my class. He asked the professor to leave early because he didn’t feel well,” Kingsland told the station.
As a result of his threats, Lee has been charged with two counts of terrorism, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.
At the time of this writing, it is unclear when Lee’s next scheduled court appearance will be.
