Students at Moutain View High School in Mesa, Arizona, are facing widespread backlash for their use of a racist promposal.
According to reports, an unidentified male student wrote the “promposal” — which is a millennial term for asking someone to prom — to a female student at Moutain View High School in Mesa, Arizona.
“If I was black I’d be picking cotton, but I’m white so I’m [sic] pick u 4 prom?” the note reads. The promposal was uploaded to Snapchat and Instagram and quickly went viral from there.
Katrina Kelley, an 18-year-old former student at Moutain View High School, told KMOV “I was just like disgusted.”
Additionally, Kelley said that the girl who received the racially charged promposal originally posted the photo to Instagram, where it was quickly screenshotted and circulated.
Mountain View High School is located in Mesa, Arizona, which is located approximately 20 miles northwest of Phoenix.
