Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry is one of the best pure shooters basketball has ever seen. And now, he may be getting better. According to Marcus Thompson II of The Athletic, Curry decided to try out some contact lenses after a recent three-point slump. That means Curry was dropping threes his entire career without clearly seeing his target.
“I started wearing contacts,” Curry told Thompson. “No, I’m serious. I had gotten so used to squinting for so long. It was just normal.”
In fact, Curry says that he has had eye issues his entire lie thanks to a condition known as “KC.”
From the report:
“He said he has a condition called Keratoconus, known in the ophthalmology field as KC. Technically, it’s an eye disease in which the cornea, normally a circle, progressively thins and takes on a cone shape. This distortion has given Curry what is known as an astigmatism, which is a type of error in the way the light bends when entering the eye. It doesn’t distribute the light equally to the retina and leads to blurred or distorted vision.”
Incredible.
Even with the sight issues, Curry has been able to set the NBA record for three-pointers made in a single season with 402. He also currently sits in the No. 3 spot on the NBA’s list of all-time three-pointers made. Oh, and he’s only 31 years old.
This season, Curry is averaging 27.7 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. In his last 10 games, Curry is averaging 48.7 percent from behind the three-point arc. On the season, Curry is averaging 43.8 percent from behind the line and 43.6 percent for his career.
Now that Curry can actually see, the entire NBA is doomed.
