Todd Phillips, the director of the upcoming Joker origin story, has released the first poster for the upcoming film, with the first trailer set to debut tomorrow.
The poster, which simply depicts Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck character staring into the sky with blood and makeup on his face — features the tagline “Put on a Happy Face.”
Additionally, in the caption of the photo, Phillips revealed that the first teaser trailer will be released on Wednesday, April 3.
Joker follows Arthur Fleck (Phoenix) as he is “disregarded by his society” and “turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City” in the year 1981.
Unlike recent DC hits such as Aquaman and Shazam!, Joker will not take place in the DC Extended Universe and will be a “darker”, potentially R-rated character study about DC’s most infamous villain.
Joker — which stars Joaquin Phoenix as the titular and iconic Joker alongside of Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Shea Whigham, and others — will be released in theaters on Friday, October 4, 2019.
