HBO just released a Game of Thrones season 8 trailer called “Aftermath” that teases the, well, aftermath of a battle with the White Walkers and it doesn’t look good for our heroes.
And frankly, it’s just downright mean of HBO, as if we already didn’t have enough anxiety about the fate of Westeros’ mightiest heroes.
Before we get into the imagery, notice some significant sounds that hauntingly ring through the trailer: the in-battle Saving Private Ryan-esque head-ringing noise that Jon has experienced before, the sound of the Night King’s Upside Down Ice Dragon shrieking, Dire Wolf growling, raven cawing, and the terrified screams of living people south of the wall.
As for the imagery, here’s everything significant in the trailer and the time they appear:
-0:07 A Dragonglass arrow
-0:19 Tyrion’s Hand of the King pin
-0:22 Arya’s trusty sword Needle
-0:28 The Feather Robert put on Lyannas tomb
-0:36 Jaime’s golden hand
-0:40 Daenerys chain
-0:44 Longclaw with potentially Night King in the background
