On the afternoon of Sunday, March 31, Grammy-nominated “Victory Lap” rapper Nipsey Hussle was shot and killed outside his Marathon Clothing store in the Hyde Park area of Los Angeles. Hussle, born Ermias Davidson Asghedom, was just 33-years-old.
Following the shooting, which killed Hussle and left another two people wounded, the 33-year-old rapper was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
At the time of this writing, the suspect who shot and killed Hussle has not been identified, as Los Angeles police have yet to detain anyone in connection with the murder.
Additionally, police have yet to release a description of the suspected murderer at this time.
According to Steve Soboroff, the Los Angeles Police Department Commissioner, Hussle was scheduled to meet with he and LAPD Chief Michel Moore on Monday, April 1, “to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids.”
Hours prior to his death, Hussle tweeted “having strong enemies is a blessing” at 2:52 p.m. PST.
In an official statement, Los Angeles City Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson said that Hussle “had a vision” for Los Angeles.
“Hussle had a vision of a neighborhood built for and by the sons and daughters of South L.A. During his life, he moved from shadows into the bright hope of freedom and community revitalization,” the statement from Harris-Dawson read.
