Movies have an innate ability to transport us to a different time and place. They open a window that allows viewers to peek into a vast expansion of realities unknown to them. They also provide an opportunity to closely examine relatable realities and put emphasis on things often taken for granted. While often thought of like an escape, movies do more than let us leave our world behind for an hour or so, they give us a premise on which to evaluate our own lives and challenge ourselves to do better. They become intertwined with people’s own identities and therefore are often revisited time and time again.

The transportable quality of film allows viewers to create connections with the characters and get a sense that they are in the action. Characters’ homes and rooms become the viewers’ homes and rooms for the length of the feature. Imagine, then, if you could actually experience these places in real life, screen-aside. That’s what Empire Today did with their recent posting about what Airbnb postings would look like for homes from America’s favorite movies.

Did the parties of The Great Gatsby inspire you to enhance your hosting skills and up your level of class? If you’ve ever dreamed of experiencing one of Gatsby’s famously wild and glamorous parties, you may be interested in this listing. For a bank-breaking estimated $5,200 a night, you could stay in his stately New York mansion. It would be up to you though to try to conjure up an event that could live up its famous past.

The Goonies defined what it means to be a kid: days full of adventure, loyal friends, a keen sense for injustice and aversion to unfairness. It captured so perfectly the joys and scariness of being adolescent. If you’re looking for a few days of youthful adventure, look no further. An imagined stay at Mikey Walsh’s house in Oregon would only cost you $136 and who knows what kinds of treasures you will uncover.

Holly Golightly – you hate and love her character at the same time. Her flippancy is to a point admirable but often crosses a line into frustrating irresponsibility. Her charm is captivating. Her tradition of eating breakfast while window shopping at Tiffany’s is endearing. Her materialism and eye for the richest man in the room are to a point of disgust. Her relatable qualities of being lost and trying to make her life work out make many audiences connect with her. If you’ve ever imagined living a day in her shoes, or her disorderly apartment, you could rent out her New York home for $168 a night – a steal for Manhattan.

Sometimes you really need a super cheesy, unrealistic, romantic, happy ending. Sixteen Candles provides that for viewers. Shy, awkward Sam Baker spends the whole movie infatuated with the cool Jake Ryan and on her birthday he comes to see her and they end up together. The whole movie isn’t all smiles though, Sam has some tough self-reflections and her dad offers her timeless advice while she settles down onto the living room couch for a bed. You can be transported straight into this scene for only $300 a night (and bring along your extended family- judging from the movie, this home can house a crowd).
