Christian Rodriguez has been identified as the 24-year-old Bronx, New York man who allegedly killed his one-month-old baby by slamming him to the ground.
According to police, Rodriguez said he “accidentally bashed” the infant’s head against a door frame and became angry when the boy wouldn’t stop crying, so he then “slammed him to the ground.”
Following the assault, the infant — identified as Aiden Rodriguez — was taken to nearby Lincoln Hospital before being transported to the trauma unit at Columbian Presbyterian Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Rodriguez has since been arrested and charged with assault causing injury through risk of death, reckless assault of a child involving a brain injury, assault causing injury to a person less than 11 years old and assault causing injury to a person less than seven years old.
A second child in the Rodriguez home was later taken into the custody of the Administration for Children’s Services.
In a statement, the Administration for Children’s Services said they were still investigating the incident.
“Our top priority is protecting the safety and well-being of all children in New York City. We are investigating this case and we have taken action to secure the safety of the other child in this home,” the Administration for Children’s Services said in a statement.
Atthis this time, the medical examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine how Aiden died and police will continue to investigate.
