Mike Trout signed a record-breaking, 12-year, $430 million contract extension with the Los Angeles Angels that makes him all sorts of rich. And Twitter reacted promptly.
The extension that Trout signed on Tuesday, March 19, will put him at a career earnings total of $577.85M, the most ever in major American sports, according to Spotrac. The contract that the 27-year-old two-time American League MVP, who was set to become a free agent in 2020, signed is set to be the largest contract in sports history.
The deal comes just weeks after Bryce Harper signed a 10-year, $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies, making Trout’s deal more than 30% larger — a fact that the internet was more than happy to point out.
Trout, who will earn approximately $100,000 per day, will be 39-years-old when his current contract with the Los Angeles Angels expires. He will earn a mind-blowing average of $35 million per season.
