Before the era of superheroes and shared cinematic universes (universi would sound much cooler, but I digress), nerd culture was dominated by stories from cosmos: Star Wars and Star Trek.
And while Star Trek’s grip on pop culture has weakened in recent decades, it can be argued that the Star Wars franchise is more popular now than it ever has been before.
With the continuation of the original franchise, the spin-offs, the Rian Johnson-helmed trilogy, the development of both live-action and cartoon television series, and of course, the toys and games, Star Wars is spread as far and as wide as it has ever been before.
Now, as if they weren’t dominating enough mediums, Disney as they announced that their new “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge” theme park would be opening at Disneyland on May 31 and at Disneyworld on August 29.
And boy does it look like it’s going to be a beauty.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, which will encompass 14 acres at both Disneyland and Disneyworld, will feature rides such as Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance.
However, while Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and a majority of restaurants and shops will be ready for the park’s opening, Rise of the Resistance will reportedly not be ready until “later this year”, according to Entertainment Weekly.
