Sierra Capri, a 19-year-old actress from Baltimore, Maryland, is one of the stars of the Netflix original series On My Block. Sierra stars on the show as the character Mona Finnie. The series returns for a second season on March 29.
For Sierra, some aspects of the Monse character come naturally as she easily relates to the character in the show.
“I was never one to feel like I had to fit in,” she said in an interview with Essence. “I would just sit back and whoever gravitated towards me, that’s who would stay in my life. She’s definitely independent and very outspoken. I wasn’t as outspoken. Growing up, I tended to be a little shy and not as hot-headed as she was, but we’re definitely both headstrong. That’s where I think we’re the most similar.”
She also previously acted as an extra in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures. Sierra claimed that she learned of the opportunity to be in the Netflix original when she spotted a casting call online during her junior year at Armstrong State University, where she majors in Biology.
