Could Donald Cerrone and Conor McGregor be set to face off inside of the Octagon? Well, if “Cowboy” gets his way, we could see him taking on the former two-division UFC champion over the summer.
Cerrone had previously expressed his interest in a fight with McGregor and now he is teasing the potential bout.
In a clever booze photo posted to social media late Wednesday, February 27, Cerrone teased the bout by lining up a bottle of his beloved Budweiser next to McGregor’s Proper 12 whiskey. Cerrone even proposed a date for the potential fight.
“@budweiser vs @properwhiskey July 6th,” he captioned the photo.
The UFC’s July 6 event, expected to be UFC 239, will be part of International Fight Week in Las Vegas.
Cerrone requested a fight with McGregor after his successful return to the lightweight division. Cerrone defeated Alexander Hernandez via second-round TKO at the UFC’s debut on ESPN+ in Brooklyn, New York.
“The old man has still got it. This is the fight that the UFC wanted,” Cerrone said, via ESPN.com’s Greg Rosenstein. “I wanted [a] Top Five [opponent]. I want Conor if he’ll agree to it. I’m coming for a belt. Cowboy is back.”
McGregor has previously expressed his own interest in the fight.
No official confirmation about the proposed bout, which would likely take place at T-Mobile Arena, has been given.
