Marvel Cinematic Universe Television Schedule 2019 & Beyond

Something as expansive as the Marvel Cinematic Universe simply can’t be confined to films. The movies do a lot to give us so many significant pieces of the story, but the television shows allow stories to play out and develop over a longer period of time. Some believe the shows star the “lesser” superheroes in terms of star power. That can be the case at times, but some major Marvel superheroes were given the TV treatment to major success.

Daredevil, The Punisher, and Luke Cage are among the more prominent stars to have seasons on TV. These shows have been spread out over ABC, Netflix, Hulu, and several other platforms. Though a handful of these were recently canceled for various reasons, there is a lot to look forward to in the television portion of the MCU.

Cloak & Dagger Season Two

In 2018, Marvel debuted Cloak & Dagger on the Freeform network. The series follows the lives of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), who were both a part of a freak accident when they were children. It gave them powers that work together and the show sees them meet as teenagers. Season one ended with the characters having their lives switched around, as Tandy was back in a happy home and Tyrone was all alone. Set in New Orleans, it also deals well with racial issues in the United States. The cast from the first season returns, including Emma Lahana as Brigid O’Reilly/Mayhem.

Season two premieres on April 4, 2019.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Seasons 6 and 7

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. started the MCU television shows back in 2013. It doesn’t focus on one specific hero, instead of following Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team as they work on peacekeeping in the MCU. The series has seen characters like Quake (Chloe Bennett) and Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), while also dealing with the fallout from major events that take place in the films like Hydra infiltrating S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Sokovia Accords. Often on the bubble, fans weren’t sure if it would make it past the most recent set of episodes, but it got renewed for both a sixth and seventh season.

Season six is scheduled to arrive in May 2019, with season seven seemingly set for the following year.

Jessica Jones Season Three

WENN

This is going to be a tough one to get too excited about. The first season of Jessica Jones was a masterful telling of a superpowered private eye played brilliantly by Krysten Ritter. The second season received more of a mixed reaction, but Jessica and her supporting characters were still beloved. Netflix recently announced that they were canceling this series, along with the rest of a Netflix lineup that included DaredevilLuke CageIron Fist, and The Punisher. However, a third season of Jessica Jones is still coming. It will feature the directorial debut of Ritter.

Though no specific date is set, the third season hits Netflix at some point in 2019.

One reason fans believe the Netflix shows were canceled was because of the upcoming Disney+ streaming service. Disney, the company who owns Marvel Studios, will be getting multiple television shows to expand on the MCU. In November 2018, it was confirmed that a series would star the popular Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Considering his fate in Avengers: Infinity War, it’s unclear how this will all happen. Whatever they go with, fans will be excited because they love Hiddleston.

The show is expected to premiere in late 2019.

Get ready for a trend with these Disney+ shows. Like Loki, this one would focus on stars of the movies. And like Loki, these are two characters who haven’t had solo films. This makes sense. Vision (Paul Bettany) and Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are married in the comics and their love story was a pivotal part of Avengers: Infinity War. The show would follow the two, but we’re not sure on what adventures. Jac Schaeffer, who co-wrote Captain Marvel, is writing the first episode and will serve as showrunner.

The Vision and Scarlet Witch is tentatively scheduled for a late 2019 release.

Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) are not only Falcon and the Winter Soldier, respectively, but they’re also the best friends of Captain America. In the comics, both have taken over that mantel. In 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, they worked together and had something of a frenemies vibe. The actors expressed interest in a buddy cop style film together, but they’ll be getting that in the form of a Disney+ show. All that’s known right now is that Malcolm Spellman will work as showrunner. He was previously worked on Empire.

There is no scheduled release date, but it can be expected at some point in 2020 or 2021.
