The Los Angeles Lakers attempted but failed to land star big man Anthony Davis before the NBA Trade Deadline. However, the memory of LeBron James’ new team offering up nearly the entire roster in a trade offer remains fresh in people’s minds. And we will once again be reminded of that when LeBron’s HBO show The Shop returns to air.
On Thursday, February 21, HBO announced that The Shop would be returning with a new episode next month and it will feature a star-studded lineup, including Davis.
Other guests will include disgruntled Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, Jamie Foxx, and Jerrod Carmichael. The inclusion of Brown makes the episode immediately a must-see affair but having Davis who attempted to join LeBron in Los Angeles ups the ante.
And, of course, social media was full of jokes.
Shortly after HBO announced the news, it seemed like everyone had the same word on their mind: tampering. The jokes were flying in about LeBron and Anthony Davis appearing on the show together after the failed trade attempt. Could they be chopping it up about joining each other next season?
The speculation was aplenty.
That’s quite the troll move by LeBron.
Of course, plenty of NBA stars have appeared on The Shop in its inaugural season like Draymond Green, Mo Bamba, and Ben Simmons. But none of those players were targets of the Lakers for a blockbuster deal to get LeBron extra help on the court.
The Shop will return Friday, March 1 at 10:30 p.m. ET on HBO so be sure to set your DVRs so you don’t miss a second of one of the most captivating shows on television.
