Former ’60 Minutes’ Reporter Lara Logan Discusses Her Current View Of News Media

Lara Logan, born on March 29, 1971, in Durban, South Africa, is a journalist and news correspondent who is perhaps best known for her former role as CBS News’ Chief Foreign Correspondent and a contributor to the legendary and long-running TV newsmagazine 60 Minutes.

Born in South Africa, Logan graduated from Durban Girls’ College before attending and graduating from the University of Natal in Durban in 1992.

Logan’s journalism career began as a news reporter for the Sunday Tribune in Durban in 1998. Following her graduation from university in 1992, Logan began working for Reuters Television in Africa.

During the course of her career, Logan has worked for news outlets such as SKY, CBS News, ABC News, NBC, European Broadcast Union, CNN, and GMTV.

In the year 2002, Logan joined CBS News as a correspondent and began appearing on CBS staples such as CBS Evening News, The Early Show and Face the Nation. After four years at CBS News, Logan became the network’s Chief foreign affairs correspondent in 2006. For the next decade plus, Logan would make regular appearances on the network, particularly on 60 Minutes.

In early 2019, in an interview with retired Navy SEAL Mike Ritlan on the Mike Drop podcast, Logan said that she was committing “professional suicide” by appearing on the podcast and saying that “the media is mostly liberal.”

“Well first of all I’ve been part of this for all my life, I’m 47 now and I’ve been a journalist since I was 17 and the media everywhere is mostly liberal not just in the U.S, but in this country 85 percent of journalists are registered Democrats so that’s just a fact,” Logan said to support her claims.

However, following the release of the interview, a CBS spokesperson told Variety that Logan had left 60 Minutes “at some point in 2018.”
