UPDATE (4:05 p.m. ET): Aurora city officials announced that the suspect in the Aurora, Illinois active shooter situation has been apprehended. The area, however, remains on lockdown as police continue to sweep to the area to confirm that there are no other suspects still at large.
“THE SHOOTER HAS BEEN APPREHENDED! The area is still on lock down,” the city wrote on Twitter.
The suspect was apprehended at 3:00 p.m. local time (4 p.m. ET).
A city official confirmed that four officers and multiple civilians were struck during the shooting. The four officers who were shot are in stable condition.
UPDATE (3:50 p.m. ET): Updated reports indicate at least four police officers were shot and multiple civilians were also wounded at the active shooter situation in Aurora, Illinois near Henry Pratt Company. The gunman could still be at large with an indication the suspect may be a disgruntled employee. One victim who fled the building claims that he recognized the suspected shooter.
The FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) are also on the scene.
Additional reports indicate the response is listed as Arlo Steel, which is next door to Henry Pratt Company. Multiple victims have reportedly been shot and transported to local hospitals.
Original Story: An active shooter situation has been reported at an Aurora, Illinois business. Police are responding to the situation with multiple ambulances making their way to the scene, according to reports.
SWAT and police were also responding to the water valve manufacturing company, Henry Pratt Company, which is reportedly the biggest of its kind in America.
All police command staff left their posts to be present at the scene.
Aurora Police confirmed the situation is ongoing. “We have an ongoing active shooter incident at 641 Archer Av. This is an ongoing active scene. We will provide more information once confirmed,” the police department tweeted. “This is an active scene. Please avoid the area.”
“There are reports of an active shooter at the Henry Pratt building near Cleveland and Prairie just east of Luigi’s Pizza, as a result, we are holding all district students in place for their safety, there is a police presence in the area. Per directions from the county sheriff, the District has been advised to go into a soft lockdown situation across the district. Teaching will continue with reduced movement. Normal operations will resume when the soft lockdown has been lifted. No one will be allowed to leave or enter our buildings until the soft lockdown has been lifted,” West Aurora School District 129 announced in a statement following reports of the shooting.
Unconfirmed reports claim some of the victims may be police officers, according to CBS 2 in Chicago. However, it remains unclear whether there were actually any injuries in the situation.
The shooting was also near the campus of Aurora University.
