Other than 2016, each year since 2010 has featured WWE’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event. The show is based around the Elimination Chamber match. Standing at over 25 feet tall, the massive steel structure locks in anywhere between six and twelve Superstars at a time. Usually, two start things off with the rest of the competitors trapped inside of glass pods. Every few minutes, a pod opens at random to bring in a new participant. They all do battle inside until only the winner is left standing.
This year’s event is headlined by two of the most intriguing Elimination Chamber matches of all time. History will be made when the first ever WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions get crowned. Representing Raw are The Riott Squad (Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan), The Samoan Slaughterhouse (Nia Jax and Tamina Snuka) and The Boss-N-Hug Connection (Sasha Banks and Bayley). On the Smackdown Live side, there’s The Iiconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce), Fire and Desire (Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose) and Team Fabulous Glow (Carmella and Naomi).
The other Elimination Chamber will determine the WWE Championship. The legendary title is currently held by Daniel Bryan. The five contenders he was set to face included Randy Orton, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Jeff Hardy and hot new star Mustafa Ali. However, Ali was recently injured and had to vacate his spot. It was taken by veteran WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston. He pinned Bryan, Joe, and Hardy on Smackdown Live to ride a wave of momentum heading into the big event.
Also scheduled for Elimination Chamber is a Raw Women’s Title defense by former UFC star Ronda Rousey against Ruby Riott and a Smackdown Tag Team Title match pitting champions The Miz and Shane McMahon against The Usos. The Toyota Center in Houston, Texas has always been a hotbed for WWE shows and this is shaping up to be one of the biggest.
