Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage has been in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since Super Bowl Sunday. On Wednesday, February 13, 21 was finally released from federal custody where he was held in an ICE Detention Center while awaiting a deportation hearing. Authorities claim that 21 Savage is a British national who had illegally been living in the United States.

As soon as 21 Savage was able to breathe a breath of fresh air, he was greeted by his mother and the two hopped on a private jet back to Atlanta.

TMZ published the photo.

“That’s how we take people home when they win,” Alex Spiro, a member of 21 Savage’s legal team, said after his client was freed.

It’s safe to say 21 is happy to once again be a free man.

Of course, there are still some hurdles for 21 Savage and he is not completely in the clear. There appears to be confusion about a previous felony charge for the rapper which has held up his application for a visa. However, Spiro says that the charge was vacated and should not be applicable to his immigration case.

What Happened?

Rapper 21 Savage, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Atlanta, Georgia. According to ICE spokesman Bryan Cox, the rap star is an “unlawfully present United Kingdom national” and is set to be deported. 21 Savage is alleged to have entered the United States legally in 2005, but overstayed his non-immigrant visa after it expired. It was previously reported that 21 moved to DeKalb County, Georgia in July 2005, but it was never clear where he came to the Atlanta area from.
