Marcella Zoia, a 19-year-old from Toronto, is in some trouble with the law after turning herself into local police. Zoia was being investigated after a video was making the rounds on Facebook which showed the young woman tossing a chair from the 45th floor of an apartment building.
According to Global News, Zoia is facing charges of mischief-endangering life, mischief to property and common nuisance.
Zoia was previously on Instagram with the handle “Marcellacz_,” but she has since deleted her social media accounts. Zoia made her first court appearance on Wednesday, February 13. Toronto Mayor John Tory slammed Zoia for her “idiotic behavior.”
You can check out the video below:
“We now know that these two chairs, and some other objects, were tossed from approximately 45 floors above the ground, ”Toronto Police Constable David Hopkinson told VICE. “With the high winds that we’ve experienced and where this is, in the middle of a fairly busy tourist spot in Toronto, this could have landed a fair distance from where it was thrown and jeopardized anyone walking underneath.
“This is a very, very dangerous thing.”
It is believed that the video was taken on Saturday before making the rounds on Reddit and ultimately Facebook. According to the Toronto Star, Zoia’s identity was learned on Monday before she ultimately turned herself in.
This is not the first time that Zoia has found herself in trouble with the law, with Adrian Ghobrial of CTV tweeting that the 19-year-old has a “criminal history,” though he did not go into detail.
Zoia was staying at an AirBnB when she tossed the chair off of the balcony and the platform has since announced they will be suspending her account after learning of the incident.
“We are outraged by the blatant disregard for community safety on display in the video,” a statement from the company read. “We will be suspending any guest’s accounts that appear to be connected to this incident.”
As you would expect, Zoia is also now a meme.
