Jack Gruden, the son of Washington Redskins head coach Jay Gruden, was reportedly arrested and charged with public intoxication after he was allegedly involved in multiple confrontations near Redskins Park around 2 a.m. on Saturday, February 9.
What Happened?
According to a statement from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Department, the 22-year-old Gruden was involved in an altercation with an unidentified person at the One Loudoun shopping center around 2 a.m. local time on Saturday, February 9.
As Gruden “walked after the other male to continue the confrontation”, the sheriff’s office said that a responding officer “intervened and the two parties separated.”
However, following the police intervention, Gruden was seen getting into a second argument just minutes later. Following the additional confrontation, Gruden was arrested and taken into police custody.
During the 2018 season, Jack worked as a video assistant for the Washington Redskins, where he was in charge of filming games and practices.
This is not the first time that a Gruden has been arrested for public intoxication, as Jay Gruden was arrested and charged with public drunkenness in 2005 back when he was the head coach of the Arena Football Leagues’ Orlando Predators.
Gruden was arrested at the One Loudoun bar-and-restaurant district, the same location where Washington Redskins safety Montae Nicholson was arrested in December 2018.
In a statement to USA Today about the incident, Tony Wyllie, a spokesman for the Washington Redskins, said that the team is “aware of the arrest of Jack Gruden” and “are gathering more information and will not comment until we have further details.”
