Rapper 21 Savage was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Atlanta, Georgia over the weekend with the threat of being deported. Authorities claimed that the Atlanta-based hip hop artist was actually a citizen of the United Kingdom.
That came as a surprise to fans of 21, who have known his ties to the Dirty South.
21 Savage often cited his Atlanta roots and his music carried themes from his time on the streets selling drugs and being involved in gang activity. So when it was reported that he actually from the UK, people were skeptical.
Well, now we know exactly where 21 Savage is from after his birth certificate surfaced online.
According to the leaked document, 21, whose real name is Sheyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was born in Newham, which is a borough of London. 21 lived with his parents in London until he was 12 years old. 21 Savage came to the United States in 2005 and was residing in the country illegally after overstaying his visa.
