Demi Lovato has deleted Twitter. The pop star, who made headlines in 2018 after an opioid overdose and stint in rehab, caused a stir on social media after she took a shot at rap star 21 Savage, who was obtained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a targeted sting on Sunday, February 3 in Atlanta, Georgia.
While many have been sympathetic about Lovato’s past issues, she decided to take 21 Savage’s hardships as an opportunity to poke fun at a very serious situation.
Lovato used her Twitter account to openly praise the memes mocking 21 Savage’s situation, before receiving backlash.
Many hip hop artists came out against the comments.
Once she received the backlash, Demi decided it was time to vanish from the platform. Unfortunately for her, the internet doesn’t forget.
Now, we will just have to wait and see how long it takes until the singer attempts to resurface and whether she will be greeted with open arms or people reminding her of her insensitive comments about a struggling musician.
What Happened?
Rapper 21 Savage, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has been arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Atlanta, Georgia. According to ICE spokesman Bryan Cox, the rap star is an “unlawfully present United Kingdom national” and is set to be deported.
21 Savage is alleged to have entered the United States legally in 2005, but overstayed his non-immigrant visa after it expired. It was previously reported that 21 moved to DeKalb County, Georgia in July 2005, but it was never clear where he came to the Atlanta area from.
