It’s almost Super Bowl weekend, with Maroon 5 set to take center stage as the halftime performers for the big game. It is an incredible platform to get millions of eyes on their performance — not that they lack any name recognition — but what could the band take away from entertaining the crowd? Do the musical acts receive a hefty pay day?
It may come as a surprise, but according to multiple reports, Super Bowl halftime performers do not receive a check for their shows.
The reason: the NFL covers other costs while providing them so much exposure; last year’s game was watched by 114.4 million people. According to Heavy.com, those costs can be as much as $10 million.
“We cover expenses and production costs,” an NFL spokeswoman told Forbes.
Taking the stage with Maroon 5 will be Travis Scott and Grammy-nominated Atlanta rapper Big Boi. who is best known for being part of the hip hop duo Outkast along with Andre 3000.
Super Bowl 53 is set to take place Feb. 3, 2019, at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. The game will be televised on CBS.
