New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton appears to be salty following the team’s elimination from the NFL Playoffs. At least that is what the internet is thinking. The Saints lost in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday, January 20. Playing at home against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship with a trip to Super Bowl 53 on the line, a blown call completely changed the momentum of the game.
The Saints should have had the ball at the five-yard line with less than 2 minutes left in the game after Rams cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman lowered his shoulder and blasted Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis before the ball was in the area. It was a clear pass-interference penalty, but the referees threw no flags and a penalty was not called.
That led to the two teams heading to overtime where Rams kicker Greg Zeurlein botted a 57-yard game-winning field goal to seal the deal of the stunning end to the Saints season.
On Wednesday, January 30, Payton was seen at a press conference with a questionable choice of attire. If you ask the internet, Payton was wearing a shirt from Barstool Sports that depicts NFL commissioner Roger Goodell as a clown.
“#Saints head coach Sean Payton showed just enough of the @nflcommish Roger Goodell clown shirt to send a big middle finger to him,” NFL reporter Dov Kleiman wrote on Twitter.
Even if that isn’t a Roger Goodell clown t-shirt, we are going to side with social media and just pretend that it 100 percent is. That would be some next-level shade from one of the top coaches in the league. And rightfully so.
