After being rumored for over a decade, Sony Pictures have finally released the first look at the highly anticipated sequel to Zombieland, which apparently is officially titled Zombieland: Double Tap.
Originally released in 2009, Zombieland was the definition of a modern cult classic, as it became a massive hit despite its relatively modest budget and marketing campaign. Littered with Academy Award winners and nominees such as Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin (ironically, only Breslin and Harrelson had been nominated at this point, Eisenberg’s and Stone’s would come later), Zombieland was a surprise in every sense of the word, as it not only held up as a comedy, but had decent action, layered characters, and was well-received by critics.
Now, a decade later, despite the fact that the entire cast has moved onto bigger and better things (Stone has since become one of the A-List actresses in Hollywood), the gang is getting back together what is sure to be a hilarious sequel.
Zombieland: Double Tap — which was directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, the team behind the original — is set to be released in theaters on October 11, 2019. In addition to the original cast of Harrelson, Eisenberg, Stone and Breslin, Zoey Deutch, Avan Jogia, and Rosario Dawson have also joined the cast.
At this time, while it is unclear when the first trailer for Zombieland: Double Tap, we know that when it does drop, it will be done in an innovative and unconventional way — just like the franchise itself.
