In the year 1980, Stone co-founded the political consulting and lobbying firm Black, Manafort & Stone alongside convicted criminal Paul Manafort and Charlie Black.
In 1981, Stone served as the chief strategist for Thomas Kean’s campaign for New Jersey governor.
In 1987, Stone served as a senior adviser to Jack Kemp’s presidential campaign.

In the year 2000, Stone was campaign manager for Donald Trump’s short-lived presidential campaign in the Reform Party primary.
