Thee years later, in 1975, Stone was influential in founding the National Conservative Political Action Committee.

In the year 1980, Stone co-founded the political consulting and lobbying firm Black, Manafort & Stone alongside convicted criminal Paul Manafort and Charlie Black.
In 1981, Stone served as the chief strategist for Thomas Kean’s campaign for New Jersey governor.
