Northridge area schools in Alabama have been placed on lockdown as police search for a man believed to be armed with a gun.
What Happened?
Police received reports that a white male suspect in the area of Northridge High School was armed with a handgun around 10:20 a.m. local time. Verner Elementary school and Northridge middle school have also been placed on lockdown.
Both the Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office are on the scene to search for the suspect.
The Tuscaloosa Police Department released the following statement:
“Around 10:20 am, the Tuscaloosa Police Department was made aware of a white male suspect in the area of Northridge High School that was armed with a handgun. Tuscaloosa Police Officers and Tuscaloosa County Deputies are in the area searching for the suspect.”
Police said that all three Northridge schools will remain on lockdown “until the situation has been resolved.”
At least six or seven police squad cars were spotted on the scene. At this time, there is no description of the suspect other than that he is a white male. Additionally, there are no reports of any injuries.
