Marisa Tomei, born on December 4, 1964, in Brooklyn, New York, is an American actress who is best known for her role in the 1992 comedy classic My Cousin Vinny alongside Joe Pesci. For her performance as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny, Tomei won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, which is a rarity for a comedic movie.
After being born and raised in Brooklyn, Tomei graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School in 1982. Following her graduation, she attended Boston University for a year before leaving to pursue her acting career.
Tomei made her active debut when she appeared as Marcy Thompson in the television series As the World Turns in 1983. From 1983 to 1991, Tomei appeared in various film and television projects such as The Flamingo Kid, The Toxic Avengers, Playing For Keeps, Oscar, Zandalee, Left Work, A Different World, and Parker Kane.
In 1992, Tomei got her big break when she starred as Mona Lisa Vito in My Cousin Vinny, for which she won an Academy Award.
After her star turn in My Cousin Vinny, Tomei became a full-blown A-List actress, appearing in movies such as Chaplin, Four Rooms, What Women Want, Anger Managment, Wild Hogs, The Wrestler, Cyrus, The Lincoln Lawyer, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Ides of March, Trainwreck, Captain America: Civil War, The Big Short, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and more.
