Joe Cunningham, a Democratic representative from the state of South Carolina, is one of the freshman members of Congress. And just a few weeks into the job he had a hilarious mishap on the House floor. What was the issue? Alcohol.
Cunningham decided to try to bring a six-pack onto the House floor Friday, January 11.
That’s obviously not allowed, so he was not permitted to walk onto the floor while he had his beer in hand. Cunningham took it in stride, however, and explained why he was bringing the booze along.
According to the New York Post, Cunningham said that it was a gift for Oregon Democrat Peter DeFazio.
“Making friends when you’re a freshman is hard and I thought I’d grease the skids with some Lowcountry beer,” Cunningham tweeted after the brew screw-up.
“Thankfully @RepPeterDeFazio got it in the end! Can I join the beer caucus now?”
The Post and Courier passed along word of the tasty brews that Cunningham had in hand.
The six-pack involved was a compilation of three different Charleston-area beers, including Dead Arm from Coast (a pale ale at 6 percent alcohol by volume), White Thai from Westbrook Brewing Company (a Belgian wheat) and One Claw, (a pale ale) also from Westbrook.
At least we know he has good taste in brews.
Coast Brewing even got into the fun, providing a recommendation for future six-packs.
Welcome to the Congress in 2019.
But on a serious note, can we really get a beer caucus going? That seems like exactly what the American people want and need.
