J.D. Gibbs Cause Of Death: Degenerative Neurological Disease
J.D. Gibbs passed away at age 49 due to a four-year battle with a degenerative neurological disease. Gibbs was the co-founder of Joe Gibbs Racing along with his father, Joe Gibbs, a former head coach of the Washington Redskins.
Gibbs began treatment for his neurological disease in May 2015 after symptoms were impacting areas of his brain function like speech and processing. The cause of the issues were “head injuries likely suffered earlier in life,” according to the doctors.
J.D. Gibbs formerly served as president and co-chairman of the race team before joining senior management. He was also an over-the-wall crewmember as a tire changer and part-time driver where he made 13 starts behind the wheel. He was also a defensive back and quarterback during his college days at the College of William & Mary.
