Have you ever heard of the rapper Lil Plantation? Probably not, but the little fella is causing a stir and is actually being investigated by officials for derogatory and racist lyrics. Here’s the twist, though: Lil Plantation is an eighth grader and reportedly a student at Mardela Middle and High School in Maryland, according to WBOC.

The SoundCloud page has been deleted, but not before the Wicomico County Board of Education heard songs like “Whips Don’t Hurt Them,” “All Slaves Are The Same,” and “Whip Hands Free.”

In a statement from Wicomico County Public Schools, the district promised to hand down punishment to anyone involved.

“WCPS learned of the songs with racist lyrics on Friday. Wicomico County Public Schools immediately started an investigation, identified the source, and any discipline to the student is being handled in accordance with the school system’s code of conduct,” the statement read, according to the Daily Beast.

The bio for the page read, “Don’t get offended these songs our [sic] just for entertainment purposes online.”

Among the troubling lyrics were:

“The whips won’t hurt them/New n*****s keep picking my crops, but the slaves can’t touch me so I’m not worried.”

This is not the first time that the school has seen outwardly racist actions. According to Tierra Pinkett, whose daughter attends the school, her child was left anxious about going to school after the Lil Plantation songs were played throughout the hallways.

Let’s hope that the school board can get to the bottom of the situation and that all of those involved are held accountable to ease any unnecessary tension within Wicomico County Public Schools.
