Nina Dobrev, born on January 9, 1989, in the Bulgarian city of Sofia, is a Canadian actress who is best known for portraying Mia Jones in the teenage drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation and Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce on The CW fantasy drama series The Vampire Diaries.
While Dobrev was born in Bulgaria, she moved to Canadian when she was just two-years-old. Upon moving to Canada, Dobrev lived in Toronto and attended various schools such as Vradenburg Junior Public School, J. B. Tyrrell Sr. Public School, Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto, and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts.
Dobrev briefly attended Ryerson University in Toronto to study Sociology, although she left to pursue an acting career in Los Angeles. Her first major acting appearance came when she was cast as Mia on the Canadian teenage drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation.
In 2009, Dobrev left Degrassi: The Next Generation to begin starring as Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce in The CW supernatural series The Vampire Diaries.
In addition to television, Dobrev has also starred in numerous films such as The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Let’s Be Cops, The Final Girls, xXx: Return of Xander Cage, Away From Her, How She Move, The Poet, Fugitive Pieces, Chloe, The Roommate Arena, Crash Pad, Dog Days, and Flatliners.
In 2019, Dobrev returned to television when she began starring as Clem in the CBS sitcom Fam. Also in 2019, Dobrev is scheduled to appear in three movies: Departures, Lucky Day, and Run This Town.
