President Trump will give a live speech tonight at 9 p.m. to address what he describes as the “humanitarian and national security crisis” that is happening on the nation’s southern border.
In a statement, the White House said that the president will be addressing border security, the partial government shutdown (which is now in its third week), and the looming threat of the first missed paycheck for federal employees Friday.
The President announced the speech — which takes place two days before Trump’s planned visit to the southern border — on Twitter on Monday, January 7.
According to the political news website The Hill, CBS stated that President Trump will speak for “no longer than eight minutes.”
The speech will be broadcast on all major news networks such as CBS, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, PBS, and Fox.
Following the announcement of Trump’s speech, congressional Democratic leaders House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer requested that their rebuttal is given equal airtime, which will also be aired on the major news networks.
