Pennsylvania Student Jason Bowen Arrested For Posting Mass Shooting Threat On Snapchat

The Penn Township Police Department have arrested Jason Bowen, an 18-year-old student in the South Butler County School District, for allegedly posting a video of himself firing an AK-style rifle with the caption “Training for Prom Walk” to Snapchat.


What Happened?

Following the posting of the video to Snapchat, Bowen was taken into police custody and the South Butler County School District is operating on a “modified lockdown” as a precaution. The district originally described his actions as “a serious threat to student safety.”

Bowen was arrested by police on Monday, January 7 and charged with charged with making terroristic threats and causing catastrophe, in addition to facing drug and weapon charges. While searching his residence, police also found brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia in his room.

Following his arrest, Bowen was taken to the Butler County Jail to await arraignment.

Officials said that while there is “no credible threat” at this time, the district will be operating under tightened security for the “foreseeable future.”

At this time, no visitors are being allowed onto school grounds and the district is also asking that all “non-essential visitors not report to the district today.”

The South Butler County School District released the following statement on Facebook following Bowen’s arrest:

“The Penn Township Police Department reported to the District a serious threat to student safety. A student has been arrested in this case and is in police custody. No credible threat to the District or its students remains. As a precautionary measure, we are on a modified lockdown, and we are asking that non-essential visitors not report to the District today. No visitors will be permitted to enter the school buildings. The District will be operating with tightened security for the foreseeable future. The District will provide more information as it becomes available.”
