Liz Wahl, born on May 27, 1985, at the Subic Naval Base in the Philippines, is an American journalist and news host who is best known for her on-air resignation from the Russian government-funded network RT.

Wahl was born at Subic Naval Base in 1985 to a Filipina mother and an American father who had been stationed in the Philippines while serving in the United States military. After being born in the Philippines, Wahl was eventually raised in Connecticut before graduating from nearby Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Wahl began working at RT America — the English branch of RT, a Russian international television network funded by the Russian government — in 2011, and eventually rose to national prominence in 2014 when she resigned while on live television.

In subsequent interviews, Wahl stated that the experiences of her grandparents — who were refugees from Hungary that fled the Soviet Union invasion during the Hungarian Uprising — as a factor in her public resignation and denunciation of RT’s coverage of Russian military intervention in Ukraine during the 2014 Crimean Crisis.

Following her uber-viral public resignation, Wahl appeared in interviews on CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, The View, Anderson Cooper 360, and The Colbert Report with Stephen Colbert. While acclaimed journalist Barbara Walters initially criticized Wahl’s stunt, she has since changed her tune and praised what Wahl did.

Following her stint with RT America, Wahl got a job with Newsy in 2015.
