After the announcement of a 70-episode order from Adult Swim, fans began officially clamoring for the fourth season of Rick And Morty, which soundly established itself as one of television’s funniest and most innovative shows during its first three seasons.
However, as fans know, co-creator Justin Roiland is notoriously cryptic when it comes to the development of the show, and that’s only been reaffirmed as fans have been given to little to know details about the show’s upcoming fourth season.
Well, two days into 2019, that changed, as Adult Swim tweeted out a dialogue-less, admittedly bizarre teaser (very loose definition of “teaser”) video:
Now, while the video may not offer much information in the first 14 seconds, it’s the final moment that could potentially provide some insight into the future of the beloved cartoon, as it reveals the now-iconic eye-patch of Evil Morty.
For those who don’t remember, that eye-patched version of Morty is known as Evil Morty, a version of Morty that is hell-bent on controlling the Rick And Morty universe, known as the Central Finite Curve.
Evil Morty was last seen in the season three episode “Tales From the Citadel” (otherwise known as “The Ricklantis Mixup”), where he became the first democratically-elected President of the Citadel of Ricks.
While not much is known about Evil Morty’s motives, this trailer seems to suggest that he will be a central protagonist going forward.
At this time, the premiere date of Rick And Morty season four has not been announced. While fans are hoping the new episodes drop sometime in 2019, nothing has been confirmed.
