Devin Hodges has been identified as the 15-year-old Georgia teenager who took his own life after he accidentally shot and killed his 17-year-old friend.
What Happened?
According to reports, on Monday, December 31, police responded to a home in Lawrenceville, Georgia, to reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found 17-year-old Chad Carless, who was accidentally shot and killed by the 15-year-old Hodges.
Police say that Hodges, Carless, and two other teenage boys were inside of a cramped shed in Gwinnett County, Georgia, when the handgun that Hodges was showing the other boys accidentally fired and struck the 17-year-old Carless. Carless tragically died before emergency services could arrive.
Following the shooting, Hodges and the other two teens then fled the shed as one called 911. Then, as police arrived on the scene, Hodges shot himself with the same handgun as he ran between two nearby houses.

On Monday, December 31, 2018, at approximately 3:15 p.m., police officers assigned to the Central Precinct responded to 1800 block of Riverlanding Circle in unincorporated Lawrenceville. When officers arrived they found a teenage male deceased in a makeshift shed.
It appears that four male teenagers gathered at the shed, at some point one of the males displayed a handgun and another male was shot. The three males left the shed where one called 911. Officers located a male with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound a short distance from the makeshift shed.
The males have been identified as Chad Carless (17) and Devin Hodges (15) of Lawrenceville.
At this time, detectives are still gathering information about the case.
“Our thoughts are with the families of both these young men,” the Gwinnett police department tweeted on Tuesday, January 1.
