Tasha Fisher, a 45-year-old Mulberry, Florida, teacher was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence on New Year’s Eve.
According to police, Fisher was pulled over by an officer around midnight in Lakeland, Florida, after she was spotted driving the wrong way on Florida Avenue South near Christina Boulevard West.
Authorities say that after she was stopped by police, Fisher admitted to taking three 20 mg generic Ambien before operating her vehicle. Additionally, she told the arresting officers that she normally only takes one pill, but took more than recommended because she was “having issues sleeping.”
The responding officer arrested Fisher for driving under the influence after observing signs of impairment.
“This shows the danger of taking above the recommended dosage of prescription medication. We are fortunate that a deputy saw the abnormal driving and made a traffic stop. Never take the risk of driving under the influence of anything,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
Fisher is a fourth-grade teacher at Kingsford Elementary School in Mulberry, Florida. She has since been charged with driving under the influence. At this time, it is not known if or when Fisher is scheduled to appear in court.
