Gemma Chan, born on November 29, 1982, in London, is an English actress who is best known for her roles in the AMC drama Humans and the romantic comedy-drama film Crazy Rich Asians.

Chan, who was born in London, England, graduated from the Newstead Wood School for Girls before going to study law at Worcester College at the University of Oxford.

After university, Chan gave up law to pursue a career in acting and began studying at the Drama Centre London.

Chan made her acting debut in 2006 when she appeared in the small independent film When Evil Calls and the television series Project Catwalk.

In the subsequent years, Chan began appearing in bigger projects such as the television series Doctor Who, Sherlock, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Fresh Meat, Bedlam, True Love, Shetland, Death in Paradise, Dates, and The Game.

Additionally, Chan began making further appearances in major motion pictures, appearing in films such as Pimp, Shanghai, Submarine, The Double, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Transformers: The Last Knight.

Her career really took off in 2015 when she was cast in the lead role of Anita/Mia in the Channel 4/AMC series Humans. Chan starred in Humans until 2018.

Chan’s career took another leap forward in 2018 when she starred in three different feature films: London Fields, Mary Queen of Scots, and Crazy Rich Asians.

In 2019, Chan’s career will take another step forward when she stars as Minn-Erva in the Marvel Studios film Captain Marvel alongside the likes of Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ben Mendelsohn.
