Gustavo Perez Arriaga has been identified as the illegal immigrant that allegedly shot and killed 33-year-old Newman Police Department Corporal Ronil Singh on Christmas. Arriaga was arrested and charged on the morning of Friday, December 28.
What Happened?
According to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office, Arriaga was taken into custody after he was arrested in Bakersfield, California, on December 28. Stanislaus County Sheriff Adam Christianson said that Arriaga was attempting to cross the border into Mexico at the time of his arrest.
Arriaga allegedly killed Corporal Singh on Christmas when the officer was conducting a traffic stop on Arriaga’s pickup truck in Newman, California. Corporal Singh had pulled over Arriaga for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police say that when Singh pulled over Arriaga’s truck, he described it to dispatchers as a silver Dodge Ram with paper plates from AR Auto before sending in a call for shots fired.
Officers from both Stanislaus and Merced counties responded to the scene, where Corporal Singh was found lying on the ground. Arriaga had fled from the scene and Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
In addition to Arriaga, 25-year-old Adrian Virgen and 27-year-old Erik Razo Quiroz, were arrested for their role in the shooting death of killed Corporal Singh.

Our search for the man who killed Newman Police Corporal Ronil Singh has ended. Kern County Sheriff’s deputies captured 32-year-old Gustavo Perez Arriaga this morning at a home in Bakersfield. Arriaga has been arrested and will be transported to Stanislaus County. Arriaga will be charged with homicide.
Two other men, 25-year-old Adrian Virgen and 27-year-old Erik Razo Quiroz, were arrested yesterday for helping Arriaga escape after he shot and killed Corporal Singh. Virgen was arrested in Hanford. Quiroz was arrested in Modesto. Virgen and Quiroz were arrested for accessory after the fact to a felony.

Who Is Gustavo Perez Arriaga?
Gustavo Perez Arriaga is an illegal Mexican immigrant that allegedly shot and killed 33-year-old Corporal Ronil Singh on Christmas Day 2018. He was arrested and charged for the shooting on the morning of Friday, December 28.
Arriaga, who is a member of the Sureños street gang, has been arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol twice before.
