Bre Payton, a 26-year-old writer for conservative website The Federalist who has appeared on network news channels such as Fox News, MSNBC and CNN, has fallen into a coma due to a sudden illness.
According to reports, Payton was found unconscious in her room in San Diego, California, on the morning of Thursday, December 27. She was then taken to a local hospital, where she currently remains in critical condition.
Doctors have since said that Payton is likely suffering from the H1N1 flu (also known as ‘swine flu’) and possibly meningitis.
Payton’s friend Morgan Murtaugh tweeted the following update about Payton on the morning of Friday, December 28:
24 hours ago I found my friend unconscious and called 911. She’s been in a coma since and really needs a miracle right now. Please, if you’re religious at all, send prayers this way. We really need them. https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/brepayton
According to the CaringBridge page established for Payton, she was admitted to the ICU, sedated & intubated, before doctors began working up a diagnosis.

Around 8:30 this morning, December 27th, Bre’s friend went into her room and found her unresponsive and barely breathing. She immediately called 911 and Bre was taken to the hospital where she was admitted to the ICU, sedated & intubated, and doctors began working up a diagnosis.
After a CT scan and hours of testing, they have determined she has the H1N1 flu and possibly meningitis. The doctors are concerned that her neurological signs are not great at this point and have informed us the next 24-48 hours are going to be critical for her.
George is in the hospital with her in San Diego and at this time we’re just asking that you lift Bre up in prayer and ask for a healing miracle and a full recovery.
