Meek Mill is capping off an incredible year with another special honor. On Friday, December 28, BET announced that the Philadelphia rapper has been named the network’s 2018 Man of the Year. In 2018, Meek was released from prison pending the appeal of a questionable arrest for a parole violation. The case was brought into question due to past mishandling of his arrest and credibility issues with the arresting officer in his 2008 drug dealing and gun possession conviction.
Following his release, Meek Mill dropped his fourth studio album, Championships, which was met with some very high praise.
“Who Meek Mill is today is the best version of himself with more sky to climb,” a statement from the network read.
“His interviews are now meaty. He’s never sounded more articulate, more personable, more informative . . . Meek widened America’s eyes toward its own illnesses. For example, he spoke from a personal perspective on how a low self-worth and desensitization to the judicial system prevented him and so many others from fighting inaccurate charges.”
Who would have ever imagined Meek would be at this stage in his career and better than ever considering his circumstances just a year ago? Congrats, Meek.
