Do not fear: the new Instagram update that forces you to horizontally scroll through pictures can be quickly uninstalled, as Head of Instagram Adam Mosseri said on Twitter the new update was not meant to be rolled out in such a widespread fashion.

The update, which was rolled out on the morning of December 27 and forces users to swipe through posts in a similar fashion to how you swipe through Tinder, was originally meant to be a very small test that accidentally “went broad.”

Luckily, according to Mosseri, the update can be uninstalled by simply closing and re-opening Instagram. If that does not work, try turning your phone on-and-off. And if you’re desperate, you can try uninstalling and re-installing Instagram.

via Twitter:

That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad by accident. Should be fixed now. If you’re still seeing it simply restart the app. Happy holidays! 😬

Either way, it seems that the new update was merely a mistake and that Instagram won’t be forcing the new change down our throats … yet. And based on the Twitter reactions to the new Instagram update, that’s probably a good thing.

How To Uninstall New “Swipe-Through” Instagram Update

  1. Close and Re-Open Instagram
  2. If that does not work, turn your phone on-and-off.
  3. If that does not work, delete the Instagram app & re-install it.
  4. If none of that works, just wait: Instagram is fixing the issue.
