The moment that Kevin D’Agostino found out he’s getting new lungs is going viral for all the right reasons.
D’Agostino, who has suffered from Cystic Fibrosis since birth & suffered an unrelated brain injury in 2016, was woken up in the middle of the night by his family to be told that he would be getting a new set of lungs that night.
The entire moment was recorded on camera and caught the tear-jerking reaction from D’Agostino, who lost his 22-year-old sister Julie due to cystic fibrosis in 2015.
“Kevin D got new lungs last night! After being on the transplant list for quite some time, the perfect lungs came. Thank you to Dr. Ali and his team at Loyola for their hard work during the 8 hour surgery. We saw Kevin early this morning and he looks great! They said the surgery well went, and we are excited for his recovery. We also want to keep in mind the donor’s family, we appreciate their gift and are thinking of them during their time of mourning.”
D’Agostino went through a successful eight-hour surgery that night and his brother Michael D’Agostino has since been posting updates of Kevin’s progress on social media:
Thank you for the outpouring of love and support, Kevin D has already been cruising around the nurses station 1 day after a double lung transplant…..almost unheard of! He is feeling less pain and even more comfortable as the time goes on. All signs point to a smooth recovery. The entire hospital staff, from the doctors to the respiratory therapists to the nurses are raving about how PERFECT Kevin’s new lungs are….we are so thankful and happy for Kevin and grateful to the selfless generosity of the donor family.
If this doesn’t hit you in the feels — especially during the Holiday Season — then you may as well admit to everyone you’re an android and join the cast of Westworld.
